Over the last 18 months we’ve spent a lot of time working with schools in varied states of 1 to 1 technology implementation.
From schools who have successfully been running BYOD for a number of years, to schools with 1 to 1 device programs (iPads, MacBooks, Chromebooks often being the devices of choice) to schools just embarking on the exciting but challenging journey.
Along the way we’ve had lots of conversations with teachers and schools about their lessons learned in moving to a 1 to 1 technology implementation and have discovered a number of common themes.
This post represents the 2nd of a series where we will share the lessons learned and best practice strategies we’ve uncovered from working with schools who have made the move to 1 to 1 technology implementation or BYOD.

The Importance of Student Voice
One of a number of schools we’ve been working this term has been Auburn West Public School – we recently chatted to Supriya about her experiences as a teacher using myEd with her Year 1 and 2 classes.
What has your experience been using myEd so far? What do you love about it?
Absolutely fantastic! Easy to access and navigate, kids are engaged, the quests are interactive and shows student progress.
Even though my students are in Year 1 and 2 they have begun to use certain features such as the social to communicate to me and to their peers.
Students are coming to school with questions and a love for learning. They constantly want more quests.
The product team here at myEd are continuously trying to come up with ways of simplifying your job as a teacher.
Today we’re making it as easy as 1,2,3 to send out and collect your class assignments.
- Create a quest for your assignment. Use the start and end dates to set when you want the assignment released and due by. (Times can be easily set inside your quest)
- Click ‘Add Activity’ and then select ‘Assignment Dropbox’.
- Enter the assignment guidelines with Text, Images, Files, etc.
And in 3 steps, your done!
Your students will be able to drop their assignment into the field and you can easily mark and comment on it via Markbook.
We recently attended EduTech 2014 held in Brisbane from June 2-4th; arguably the largest education conference in Australia with over 5,000 attendees and more than 300 exhibitors.
While we have been in product development over the last 18 months co-creating myEd with teachers across Australia, myEd has only been available as part of a limited private beta – but this all changed at EduTech 2014.
We officially launched myEd for public use.
AND WE WERE BLOWN AWAY BY THE RESPONSE.
At the very core of myEd is our powerful gamification that makes learning fun and exciting for your students.
And today we’re making it even easier for you with our brand new badge editor.
You can now quickly whip up a fun badge to match your learning content and quests.
Just click the quest badge to bring up the editor, then simply pick your colour and icon!
Feeling a little lazy? Try out the randomise button up the top left and we’ll do the
fun hard work for you.
A big part of our focus at myEd is to constantly find ways to make it simple and easy to use technology in the classroom.
We believe that technology works best when you don’t even realise you are using it, or have to think about it.
With this in mind – we’ve recently made it even easier for your students to login to their myEd account on their iPad.
In 3 quick easy steps that take less than 5 seconds, we’ve enabled you and your students to add the myEd login page as an ‘App’ to your iPad – so whenever you want to login to myEd it’s as simple as clicking on the App image
Step 1: Select “Add to Home Screen”
myEd makes it easy for you say goodbye to a one size fits all in your classroom by enabling you to in less than 30 seconds individualize your lessons for your students giving the right content, to the right student at the right time.
